One of the major elephant and tiger reserves in India, the Periyar National Park hosts as a home to some major endangered species all over the World and is considered one of the most preserved National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in India. This is the only national park that opens for visitors even at the time of monsoons. The fauna here includes mammals such as Indian wild dog, Nilgiri Tahr, Nilgiri langur, birds like Malabar trogon, the Malabar grey hornbill and amphibians such as the Malabar gliding frog.
