The Government Museum & Art Gallery is designed by the Swiss born French architect, Le Corbusier. The Government Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh is part of the series of three museums of Unlimited Growth designed by Le Corbusier, the other two being Sanskar Kendra, Ahmadabad and Museum of Western Art, Tokyo.
It houses the collection of sculptures, miniature paintings, modern and contemporary art, textiles, decorative art, coins, manuscripts and pottery. The museum is located in the centre of the city and attracts visitors from around the World.
With historic collections of paintings, artifacts, and sculptures, the museum is known for its brilliant architecture as well. The building of the museum is divided into three levels; it has its library, experiment lab, exhibition hall, and auditorium.
The museum is divided into 4 sections with each section displaying the different historical collection. Ancient India, Medieval India and gandhara period are the time zone covered by the whole museum. For the history enthusiasts, the museum is worth visiting.
