IMI is the realisation of collective dreams. In 1991, 12 eminent professionals from the maritime fraternity determined to pool together resources, expertise and long broad-based maritime experience to establish an institution in response to the severe manpower shortage facing the shipping industry worldwide. The Institute provides post sea courses, pre sea courses, and graduation in Marine Engineering. Candidates who want to join the Institute needs to clear an All India Entrance test ( IMU CET) conducted by Indian Maritime University, Chennai.
